The biggest tragedy in golf. Jean van de Velde’s collapse at the Open Championship at Carnoustie in 1999. A double bogey 6 or better was all that seperated the Frenchman from the Claret Jug. He made a 7!!!!!! He lost the resulting 3 way playoff to local hero Paul Lawrie. I uploaded this video as Carnoustie which is currently holding the Open, will always remind me of Jean’s antics at the last. I have a blog entry of the tragic event. You can find it here

I’m an American..and I agree with you…Phil’s collapse was just as bad if not worse just because he’d already choked away a few majors before winged foot AND because he LOST it right there on 18…Van de Velde still could’ve won in the playoff

@Ot555xzx It refers to the fact that a lot of the anti-french comments by some American’s on this video cant exactly criticise Van de Velde’s collapse (using anti-French comments) when a number of their own golfers have collapsed over d closing holes of majors as well. When they commented on this video those other events had happened

@mcdb06 Bogey Bogey finish which Perry had in the final round of 2009 Masters can happen to anyone & occurs most of the time in the final round of a major. As for Mickleson, double bogey on the final hole of major is not a one-off, it happens. Van de velde’s collapse is legendary bcuz of his poor decision-making as opposed to getting triple bogey. Took a driver of the tee when he had 3 shot advantage, poor 2nd shot decision-making + comedy of actually thinking he can advance d ball in d water

what the f was his caddie doin? first off iron off the tee. short iron layup. he misses that putt on 18 he misses the playoff. prolly woulda been better if he did.
